 How to Open the Learning Design Tool

 
Windows 11 Start Dialog Box
  1. Click the Windows button in the lower left corner of your screen to open your computer’s Start menu

  2. In Windows 11, click All Apps in the top right corner of the Start dialog box

  3. Scroll down the list of All Apps until you get to L

  4. Click on Learning Design Tool

  5. This will open Word and bring up the Learning Design Tool ribbon

  6. The Learning Design Tool tab and ribbon will appear along the top of your screen in Word while you are using the tool

How to open an existing Learning Design Tool document

Open your Learning Design documents the same way you open any other Word document.

Or, if the Learning Design Tool ribbon is up on your screen, you can use the Open button on the ribbon to navigate to your save file.

The Learning Design Tool runs within Microsoft 365 Word.

  • When using the tool, you are in a Word document.

  • You need to Save your work just like you do for any other Word file.

 How to Open the Learning Design Tool from your Templates in Word

In Word, click File > New

  • Select the Learning Design Tool from your Word templates

  • If you do not see the Learning Design Tool in your OFFICE templates, select PERSONAL

  • If you don't see the Learning Design Tool in your PERSONAL templates, follow the steps below


How to Add the Learning Design Tool to your Word Templates

1. Go to your C drive

2. Navigate to Users > Your Name > AppData > Roaming > Microsoft > Templates

  • If you don’t see App Data, scroll down to the bottom of this page for help

3. Copy the file path address as text

4. Open Word

5. Click on File > Options > Save

6. Look for Default personal templates location

7. Paste in your file path

8. Click OK in bottom of the dialog

9. Now, when you click File > New in Word you will see the Learning Design Tool as an option - select it to bring up the LDT tab and ribbon

If you don't see your App Data folder

  1. Click View

  2. Check the box next to Hidden Items in the Show/Hide group
