How to Use

Note for legacy users of AuthorTec Statistics only: This tool is located on the Review tab ribbon in Word.

Instructions

  1. Open your document in Word.

  2. Click the Review tab along the top of your screen.

  3. Click the AuthorTec Statistics button.

  4. This will open the AuthorTec Statistics dialog box, which will be populated with the statistics collected from your open Word document.

AuthorTec Statistics allows you to gather relevant data about 23 different aspects of an open Word document with just one click, including:

  1. Bookmarks. Only visible bookmarks are counted. Hidden bookmarks, such as ones used in the Table of Contents are not counted.

  2. Charts. All charts found in the document.

  3. Characters No Spaces

  4. Characters With Spaces

  5. Comments. All found in the document. 

  6. Equations. Total found in the document. 

  7. Foot/End Notes. A combined count of all Foot Notes and End Notes in the document.

  8. Lines. Total number of text lines in the document. Includes blank lines.
    Varies based on the line wrapping caused by margin settings of the document.

  9. Pages. Total number of individual pages in the document. This includes blank pages. 

  10. Paragraphs. Total number of paragraphs in the document and does not include empty paragraphs.

  11. Pictures Embedded. Pictures that are saved in the document. 

  12. Pictures Linked. Pictures that are displaying in the document but are not saved in the document.

  13. Sections. Total number of sections in the document. 

  14. Shapes. Total number of AutoShapes in the document. This does not include charts, pictures, or textboxes, which are counted separately.

  15. Shapes grouped. If individual shapes and other objects are grouped together to form one object that can easily be moved, copied, pasted, etc. those are included in this number.

  16. Smart Art. Total found in the document.

  17. Styles. Total count of document Styles (In Use). This does not include styles available to use in the template attached to the document.

  18. Styles used in the document. A listing of the names of all “Styles in Use” in the document.

  19. Tables. Includes only tables that are Microsoft Word tables. It does not include tables linked to Excel.

  20. Textboxes. Includes only textboxes that have a format of wrapping text surrounding them.
    Textboxes that have been reformatted to be “In Line” with text are not included in this count.

  21. Unresolved Changes. All tracked changes that have not been accepted are included in this count.

  22. Video. Total found embedded or linked in the document, not hyperlinked, are included in this number.

  23. Words. The total number of words, as defined by Microsoft Word, are included in this count.
