How to Access & Use

  1. Open the Word document you want to use File Doctor with and click the Developer tab along the top of your screen to access the AuthorTec File Doctor button.

  2. Use AuthorTec File Doctor to rename files, convert Word files to other document formats, add password protection for opening and editing Word documents, and to convert a PDF to Word .docx format.

  3. Learn how to use AuthorTec File Doctor with our Tutorial and by using the instructions that are built into the software.

  4. If you don’t see your Developer tab, please follow the steps in our Tutorial to allow it to display.


Password protection?

In Word, there are two types of password protection and you can use one or both. You can add a password to your documents to:

  • Control who can open them, and/or

  • Control who can edit them.

If you decide to use passwords:

  1. Keep them in a safe place. Word can't recover them for you if you forget them.

  2. You will need them to use AuthorTec File Doctor to update or remove passwords.
