The Mechanics of Creating LGPro Documents
LeaderGuide Pro is bursting with amazing features that make life better for you as you build and maintain the documents that support your training programs. For all of the LGPro magic to work, you need to understand and properly use "the mechanics". So even though you probably have a big project that was due yesterday, please take the time to set things up correctly. This will save you tons of time as you start working. Use these videos to see what to do. It's all pretty easy once you know what to click when and why.

How to Start a New Guidebook and Choose a Custom Collection
- Open Word
- Click the LGPro tab
- Click NEW on the LGPro ribbon
- Under Collection Name, click on Custom and select your Collection
- Click OK
- Save the file when prompted
- Wait for and answer the question about bringing images into the document
How to Start a New Facilitator Guide without a Training at a Glance
- Open Word
- Click the LGPro tab
- Click NEW on the LGPro ribbon
- Click EXPRESS under Collection Name
- Click OK
- Save the file when prompted
How to Remove a Training at a Glance from an Existing Leader Guide
- Open the leader guide
- Update All Fields and Save
- Click EXTRACT on the LGPro ribbon
- Select New Guidebook from Existing
- In the Extract a New Guidebook dialog box, click EXPRESS
- Click OK
- Extract ALL
- Wait for the prompt that the action is completed successfully
How to Add Slides as you Start a New Guidebook
- Open your PowerPoint file
- Say “YES” to the question about adding images to the document
- Move through the image import dialog boxes
- Wait for the message that the action was completed successfully
How to Add Images as you Start a New Guidebook
- Place all of your images into a folder, named in such a way that they are listed in the order you intend to use them
- Start a new leader guide or participant guide
- Say “YES” to the question about adding images to the document
- Move through the image import dialog boxes
- Wait for the message that the action was completed successfully
How to create a Content Part
- Click on the New button on the LGPro ribbon
- Click Facilitator or Participant
- Click Content Part
- Make your other selections
- Click OK
- Click “Yes” to start a new Module and Lesson
- Click “No” to start just a Lesson
How to Attach to an existing Word doc to convert it to LGPro format
- Open the Word document you want to Attach to
- Click on the Attach button on the LGPro ribbon
- Set your specifications for the LGPro document type
- Click OK
- Save with a NEW name when prompted
- Say “Yes” to the next two questions
- Click OK
How to Insert Content Parts or Attached Content into a Leader Guide
- Start or Open a guidebook
- Place your cursor at a logical insertion point
- Click on Librarian
- Click on Insert Archived Modules or Lessons
- Navigate to your file, select it and click OK
- Repeat as needed
How to Attach a Collection to change the look and feel of an existing LGPro document
- Open your guidebook
- Update and Save
- Click on Attach
- Set your specifications and click OK
- When prompted, Save with a NEW name
- Say “Yes” to the questions
- Do your happy dance
How to Extract a Participant Guide from a Leader Guide
- Open the facilitator guide you want to extract from
- Update and Save
- Click EXTRACT on the LGPro ribbon
- Select “Current Guidebook >> To Another Type of Guidebook”
- Set your specifications for the new guidebook
- Click OK and Save when prompted
- Select the Content Block types you want to Extract
- Wait for the prompt that the action is completed successfully
This video shows an extract from a 3-column facilitator guide to a 2-column participant guide. And it shows you how to deal with a situation where you want to extract slides from your leader guide, but the slides are in column 3.
How to Sync between a Participant Guide and a Leader Guide
- Open the two files you want to Sync
- Update and Save both
- Click SPECIAL on the LGPro ribbon
- Select “Sync Guidebook Blocks”
- Set your Sync specifications
- Click OK
- Review your “destination” file and Save
